Six of the teams (Philomath, Siuslaw, North Bend, Molalla, Tillamook and Hidden Valley) are ranked in the top ten in the boys and/or girls 4A state poll. Molalla is the defending girls state champs and Siuslaw finished 2nd in the 4A boys state meet last year. The meet also features many of the top individuals in the state.
The meet is considered to be the showcase event for 4A schools prior to the state meet. It is named in honor of the late Paul Mariman, who coached at PHS between 1977 and 1994. Coach Joe Fulton, who has been coaching runners at PHS since 1984, spent his first eleven seasons as Paul Mariman's assistant coach. He took over as head coach when Paul retired.
The sponsor of the meet is the PHILOMATH COMMUNITY FOUNDATION. Admission if free. Concessions will be available.
